World Environment Day 2019 @Symbiosis
‘The Greatest Threat to our Planet Is the Belief That Someone Else Will Save It’ ……. Robert Swan.
When we talk about the Planet, we are actually talking about the environment. Environment means everything that is around us. It not only includes the living things, but also the non-living things. In the environment there are different interactions between animals, plants, soil, water, and other living and non-living things.
Gradually, day by day the environment is deteriorating. Due to different types of pollution and continuous human interaction with the environment, the speed of deterioration is aggravated. Our little efforts can make a huge difference.
The need to spread environmental awareness amongst the current generation is enormous in the context of successfully addressing environmental problems, and is linked to raising environmental awareness. The University, through its Constituents conducts different activities for creating environmental consciousness, keeping in mind that environmentalism evokes the necessity and responsibility of humans to respect, protect, and preserve the natural world from its afflictions caused by humans. Throughout the year the University conducts several activities like Clean Mess Day, Clean Campus Day, ‘Swachhta Drive’, ‘Symbriksha’: Tree Plantation drive, ‘Green Ganesha’ Idol making Workshop etc…
The theme for the ‘World Environment Day’ was ‘Air Pollution’. On 5th June, the University at its different campuses conducted several drives in tune with the theme. The Constituents along with the staff and students conducted cleanliness drives and various awareness campaigns. The University’s Symbiosis Centre for Waste Resource Management participated in the Cleanliness Drive jointly organised by Indian Air Force and Adar Poonawala Clean City Initiative and Pune Municipal Corporation.
